Pappelina

After a four-year stay in the United States, Lina Rickardsson returns to Falun, her hometown in Sweden. Passionate about weaving, she discovers an old weaving school in the city and decides to pursue this craft at the age of 24. Later, she moves to Gothenburg and meets local retailers, which turns her hobby into a lucrative profession. Thus, the brand Pappelina is born, specializing in the creation of linen carpets and paper table sets.

Aware of her production limitations, Lina searches for a weaving factory in Sweden and settles in a small family-owned factory in Dalarna. There, she discovers a treasure trove of colorful plastic ribbons and decides to experiment by creating unique plastic carpets. Despite initial doubts, her new plastic carpet captures attention and becomes a commercial success when presented at the Formex fair in January 2000. Lina's plastic carpets sell well, and she continues to innovate by introducing models like the BOB carpet and the Vera carpet, which receive accolades and achieve immediate success.

Today, Pappelina is a thriving company that produces 100,000 carpets daily, employs around 40 people in Dalarna, and sells its products in 26 countries. Despite higher production costs, the company takes pride in maintaining the manufacturing of its carpets in Sweden, emphasizing the quality and pride of its brand. The BOB and Vera carpets remain best-sellers, representing classics of Scandinavian design. Lina continues to explore new patterns and techniques, but the essence of Pappelina remains unchanged: simple, elegant, and functional products.
