The Coda upholstery fabric is the result of collaboration between young furniture designers and an upholstery manufacturer steeped in tradition. This partnership has resulted in a classic wool upholstery fabric consisting of 90% new wool and 10% polyamide, but with a twist in the combination of colours and in the design of the weave. Coda is woven in two layers and the colour scheme contrasts neutral and strong colours in the top and bottom layers respectively. The colour scheme has 18 colours altogether.
The two-tone layer accentuates the three- dimensional character of the fabric and shows off the pattern to maximum effect. The fabric also has a strong tactile appeal by virtue of its combination of a rough surface and the sober, graphic style of the pattern. Coda is intended for both the contract and the retail/consumer markets.
The Coda upholstery fabric received the prize of honour for excellent design in Norway in 2003 and was selected by names such as Moroso and ClassiCon for the Milan fair in 2004. The young Norwegian design team Norway Says, in collaboration with Norwegian textile designer Per Bjørnsen, developed Coda.

NORWAY SAYS ON THEIR DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
Good design defends itself by being natural. What this means differs from product to product – a work lamp can have other qualities than a lamp for the home. Norway Says doesn't have a program, but you might say that we seek an expression that doesn't have simplicity as a goal but often uses a simple language to express a complex idea.
NORWAY SAYS ON NEW NORDIC DESIGN
Due to increasing globalisation, young Nordic designers are a more integrated part of international design than ever before but at the same time industrial design is a cultural expression. The way we live and work in Scandinavia is implicitly reflected in our work.
We believe that the fact that young Nordic designers are 'born' global but at the same time have a strong cultural heritage is a central reason for the inspiring and admirable work we see created by young Scandinavian designers.
