Karin Björquist

Karin Björquist is one of the most admired Swedish ceramists Combining functionality and aesthetics in a true Scandinavian tradition, she created dishes , plates, bowls , cups for very special occasions, but also some tableware for a day-to-day use : for example the amazing set in orange plastic « Zoom », created in1968.
One of her most iconic works is the dinner service « Nobel », which was created in 1991 to celebrate the jubilee of the Nobel dinner, for which she received the Excellent Swedish Design Prize.
Karin Björquist studied at Konstfack in Stockholm between 1945 and 1950 , then worked for over forty years for Gustavsberg porcelain. She has won numerous awards such as the Gold Medal of the Milan Triennale in 1954, the Lunning prize in 1963 and the Medal of Prince Eugene in 1982. Her work is exhibited in many museums around the world.
