Søholm stentøj
Søholm is the oldest ceramic factory on Bornholm. The company Søholm Stentøj was founded by Herman Sonne Wolffsen and Edvard Christian Sonne in 1835 at Rønne, the principal town of Bornholm, a Danish island off the south coast of Sweden, and the name should not be confused with the town in Frederiksborg some twenty miles north of Copenhagen. From 1841 Wolffsen took over by alone. At the beginning the production was fience, yellowware, pots, bowls and dishes. During the 2nd world war they produced pipes (for tobacco). Today only very few of those pipes has survived. In the 1930th, 40th and 50th dinner service (with motifs from Bornholm) was produced, most of it by Niels Stougaard (1906-87). Noomi Backhausen was a designer for Søholm from 1966 to 1990 and set up her own pottery in Rønne in 1996. In very old Søholm pieces (around 1835 to 1878) the name will be marked Söholm.
